Maldives and Japan reaffirm strong bilateral partnership
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Japanese Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko have reaffirmed the strong friendship and longstanding partnership between the Maldives and Japan during a courtesy call held at the President's Office.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation as both countries prepare to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
During the discussions, the Vice President expressed appreciation for Japan's continued support to the Maldives across a range of sectors.
Areas highlighted included human resource development, infrastructure projects, education, sports cooperation, climate resilience initiatives, disaster management, and community development programs.
The two sides also explored opportunities to further expand collaboration and deepen engagement in areas of mutual interest.
Particular attention was given to enhancing people-to-people ties, promoting tourism, and increasing economic cooperation between the two countries.
Officials noted the importance of building on the strong foundation of cooperation that has characterised Maldives-Japan relations over the decades, while identifying new opportunities for partnership in the years ahead.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation across key sectors as the two nations approach a significant milestone in their diplomatic relationship.
