Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed four additional cases of measles in the Maldives over the past week, bringing the total number of reported infections this year to 15.

In its latest public health update, the agency said efforts are ongoing to contain the spread of the highly contagious disease and prevent further transmission within communities.

Health authorities have advised individuals being tested for suspected measles to remain in isolation until their test results are confirmed.

HPA also urged people experiencing symptoms such as fever, skin rashes, or respiratory illness to avoid public gatherings and crowded areas to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

The agency stressed the importance of seeking medical attention without delay if a fever is accompanied by a red rash, one of the key symptoms associated with measles.

Individuals visiting healthcare facilities with suspected symptoms have also been advised to wear face masks as a precautionary measure to protect others from possible exposure.

According to the HPA, investigations are currently underway to determine how the recent infections were acquired.

Public health teams are also conducting contact tracing exercises to identify and monitor individuals who may have come into contact with confirmed cases.

The agency continues to monitor the situation closely while encouraging the public to follow recommended health measures and remain vigilant for symptoms as authorities work to limit further spread of the disease.
