PPM to host a protest calling for fishermen's rights
The main opposition party, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has stated that the party plans to hold a protest tomorrow calling for the rights of fishermen.
PPM said that the event will be held at 4 pm tomorrow at the fish market area of Male' City.
Speaking at a press conference today, Former Hoarafushi MP Mohamed Ismail said that the incumbent government has made many promises to the fishermen to win the 2018 presidential election.
Speaking in this regard, Mohamed said that the government has pledged to establish special platforms for fishermen and reduce the price of oil. However, fishing families have been declining for the past four years.
He said that we cannot remain silent and silent as fishing families are humiliated and that tomorrow's protest is held to fulfil the responsibility of political parties to hold the government accountable.
