Maldives Customs Service has destroyed three million cigarette sticks that were in its custody after being confiscated during multiple enforcement operations.

According to Customs, the destruction took place at noon today in K. Dhoonidhoo, in the presence of Customs officers and members of the media.

The cigarettes were disposed of by setting them on fire, ensuring that they would not re-enter circulation.

Customs stated that the items had been seized on various occasions as part of its ongoing efforts to curb the illegal importation of tobacco products into the country.

The import of tobacco and related products into the Maldives remains strictly regulated, with authorities maintaining regular enforcement to prevent unlawful trade.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to upholding national regulations and protecting public health.

The government has also banned the import and sale of vapes, with violators facing fines and penalties under existing laws.
