Preparations underway to transfer Hanimaadhoo Airport operations to new terminal
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that preparations are ongoing to shift operations from the existing terminal at Hanimaadhoo International Airport to the new terminal’s ground floor, starting tomorrow.
According to MACL, the transition is part of the final preparations for the official opening of the new Hanimaadhoo International Airport in November.
The company explained that the relocation is required to meet standards set by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA), as all Code C aircraft will be permitted to use the full length of the new runway only once clearance is granted. For this purpose, the old terminal, nearby buildings, and other tall structures must be removed.
MACL stated that the island council and relevant government ministries have been informed of the changes.
The company added that extensive work is currently underway to prepare terminal services and operational procedures, test equipment and machinery, and conduct staff training as part of the ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) process.
The ORAT process, MACL said, ensures that the new terminal fully complies with national and international operational standards before its official launch.
