President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a significant salary increase for employees across the civil service, judiciary, and local councils, effective 1 November 2025.

The decision, revealed through the President’s official X account, fulfills a commitment he made in his Presidential Address earlier this year.

The adjustment is part of the administration’s broader pay harmonisation process, which aims to create a fairer and more equitable remuneration framework across the public sector.

All civil service employees, all judicial employees, and all council employees who have not yet received a pay harmonisation will be harmonised on November 1 this year

He further pledged that government staff whose salaries remain unchanged this year will see their adjustments implemented in 2026.

This move is expected to improve the livelihoods of thousands of employees, while also strengthening administrative and judicial functions across the nation.

The announcement builds on earlier salary revisions for leadership positions in independent institutions, local councils, and the judiciary.

Increases made last year raised the salaries of city mayors to MVR 46,000, atoll council presidents to MVR 33,000, and island council presidents to MVR 25,000.

Heads of independent institutions currently receive MVR 59,000, while their deputies earn MVR 55,000.

The salaries of the Prosecutor General, Commissioner General of Taxation, and Auditor General stand at MVR 74,000, while the Chief Justice earns MVR 91,000.
