Bangladeshi remanded over stabbing of Nepalese worker
A Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing a Nepalese woman inside a shop in Hulhumalé has been remanded in custody until the conclusion of his trial, police have confirmed.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jahangir Mia, was arrested last night following the incident in which a 21-year-old Nepalese shop assistant was attacked with a sharp object.
The assault, which took place yesterday afternoon inside her workplace in Hulhumalé Phase 1, is believed to have occurred during an attempted robbery.
Police said the woman sustained an injury to her neck.
Mia was located and taken into custody with the help of CCTV footage and other investigative methods.
When presented before court, he was ordered to remain in remand detention until the end of trial.
Police further confirmed that the victim received treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital and has since been discharged.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
