President reaffirms commitment to sustainable, people-centred future for Maldivian tourism
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to steering its tourism industry toward a sustainable, inclusive, and innovative future.
In a message issued on the occasion of World Tourism Day, the President said the country’s position as a global leader in hospitality and tourism is a testament to the vision and perseverance of its industry pioneers.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” President Muizzu noted its close alignment with the Maldives’ national priorities.
He emphasised that the government’s efforts focus on ensuring that tourism continues to drive positive change while safeguarding long-term sustainability.
The President underscored the diversification of the industry as a key pillar of this transformation.
In recent years, Maldivian tourism has expanded into less-engaged atolls and explored new avenues, including halal tourism.
These initiatives, he said, are further supported by major infrastructure projects such as the new international terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA), which will boost connectivity and reinforce broader national development goals.
Expressing his appreciation to tourism professionals across the country, President Muizzu said their dedication and service form the foundation of the Maldivian experience.
He added that the future of the sector will continue to rest on their hard work, commitment, and invaluable contributions.
Concluding his remarks, the President reiterated his pledge to shape a sustainable, people-centred, and innovative future for tourism in the Maldives.
He also extended World Tourism Day greetings on his official X account, reaffirming his vision of progress and sustainability going hand in hand.
