Maldives joins 15 nations in call to safeguard Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza
The Maldives, together with 15 other nations, has called for the protection of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian initiative carrying aid to Gaza.
In a joint statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldives joined Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Qatar, Oman, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, and Türkiye in expressing concern over the security of the flotilla and its participants.
According to the statement, the flotilla’s objectives are to deliver vital humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza and to raise global awareness about the worsening humanitarian crisis and the urgent need to end the war.
The Maldives and its partner nations stressed that these goals humanitarian relief, peace, and respect for international law are principles shared by their governments.
The countries urged all parties to refrain from any unlawful or violent acts against the flotilla, calling for adherence to international law and international humanitarian law.
They further warned that violations, including attacks on vessels in international waters or the illegal detention of participants, would demand accountability.
