China and Maldives shift to sustainable, integrated development partnership: Ambassador Kong
China is moving beyond short-term aid to foster long-term, sustainable development in the Maldives, Chinese Ambassador Kong Xianhua said at a press briefing today.
Highlighting the evolving partnership, Ambassador Kong emphasized that
China’s existence to the Maldives will gradually shift from blood transfusion to blood generation. Which means to help the Maldives to cultivate internal driving force for economic development
He stated
The ambassador provided updates on key projects fully funded by China, including the China–Maldives Friendship Hospital in Villingili, road redevelopment in Malé and Villingili, and new Island Council buildings across multiple islands.
These initiatives, he said, mark a new stage in practical collaboration between the two countries.
In addition to grant-funded projects, China and the Maldives recently signed eleven Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) covering sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, renewable energy, electricity, and vocational education. Ambassador Kong described these agreements as a significant step toward integrating China’s development experience with Maldives’ growth priorities.
Through this integrated approach, China aims to support the Maldives in achieving sustainable development while maintaining fiscal and social stability, ensuring that the country can pursue long-term growth with confidence.
