Nasheed warns more countries could face protests without good governance
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has cautioned that more countries may face protests if corruption, mismanagement, and unsustainable debt are not addressed.
In a post on X, Nasheed commented on the ongoing unrest in Nepal, where protests against corruption and government decisions have escalated into deadly riots.
Corruption, mismanagement, as well as excessive debt, are destabilising government after government. Now Nepal. If developing countries can’t restructure their debts and bring good governance, no doubt we will see protests in more countries. The world must wake up to this or face more chaos,

Nasheed said the root causes of instability in developing nations often lie in weak governance and poor financial management, adding that Nepal is now experiencing these same challenges.
The unrest in Nepal intensified after the government imposed a ban on social media, sparking a wave of protests led by young people.
Several senior officials have since resigned amid allegations of widespread corruption.
The protests quickly escalated into large-scale riots, resulting in multiple deaths and significant damage across the country.
