Saudi University donates 64,000 books to Maldives Islamic libraries
In a significant boost to Islamic education in the Maldives, Al-Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University of Saudi Arabia has donated 64,000 books to Islamic libraries across the country.
The books were formally handed over at a ceremony held today at the Islamic Center, with Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives Yahya Hassan Alqahtani and the university’s Director, Dr. Solih bin Sulaiman Al-Arajah, presenting the collection.
The books were received by Minister of Islamic Affairs Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
Speaking at the event, Minister Shaheem described the donation as a strong symbol of the close relationship between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
He highlighted that it reflects the importance Saudi Arabia places on supporting Maldivian students and researchers, while promoting knowledge and understanding.
The Minister also extended his gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, and Saudi government officials for their continued support and friendship with the Maldives.
Saudi Ambassador Alqahtani and Dr. Al-Arajah addressed the ceremony, emphasizing the shared commitment to Islamic education and research.
In recognition of the university’s generosity, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs presented a special memorandum of appreciation.
The donated books are expected to play a key role in establishing Islamic libraries throughout the Maldives, advancing a campaign pledged by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to expand access to Islamic learning resources nationwide.
