The Maldives has welcomed 1,520,699 tourists so far in 2025, marking a 9.7 percent increase compared to 1,386,554 arrivals during the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

This strong growth positions the island nation to achieve its ambitious year-end target of 2.3 million visitors, which would surpass the record two million tourists recorded in 2024.

The daily average arrivals currently stand at 6,232.

The upward trend shows no signs of slowing.

In the first seven days of September alone, tourist arrivals surged by 23.6 percent, totaling 33,773 visitors compared to the same period last year.

Monthly data highlights a steady influx, with January leading at 214,863 arrivals, followed by February (214,091) and March (203,468).

Although there was a slight dip in May (135,614) and June (141,772), numbers rebounded in July (186,738) and August (192,058).

China has emerged as the top source market, contributing over 240,000 tourists, accounting for 15.8 percent of total arrivals.

Russia follows with 182,315 visitors, while the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany each contributed over 100,000 tourists, rounding out the top five source countries.
