Indian Foreign Secretary reaffirms India’s support for Hydrography training in Maldives
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to enhancing Maldives' capacity in hydrography, emphasizing that the two nations are actively working together through ongoing training and collaboration.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday amid Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State Visit to the Maldives,
“We have been in close touch with our colleagues in Maldives. We are working on training here in the Maldives to enable Maldivian personnel to develop their capacities in this area. The emphasis is increasingly on building capacity here in the Maldives.
Misri stated
He clarified that this collaboration is not governed by rigid frameworks or formal agreements, but instead driven by continuous bilateral engagement.
This is not something necessarily restricted or dictated by specific agreements. It’s something on which both sides continue to talk.
He added
In May last year, India facilitated the phased replacement of Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives with trained technical teams in non-military roles.
The transition was carried out over three phases and ensured uninterrupted delivery of essential services such as medical evacuations, maritime surveillance, and humanitarian support.
Misri’s remarks come as both countries continue to deepen cooperation in maritime security and capacity building, aligning with shared regional interests.
