In a significant boost to bilateral economic cooperation, India has agreed to provide a USD 565 million line of credit to the Maldives through the Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) for the implementation of key national development projects.

The agreement was signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official two-day visit to the Maldives, following high-level talks with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The funding will support critical infrastructure and public sector initiatives in the Maldives, including those in the military, healthcare, education, and housing sectors.

President Dr. Muizzu expressed gratitude to the Indian government, noting that the assistance would help realize the administration’s top development priorities.

The USD 565 million line of credit was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Maldives Finance Minister Moosa Zameer and India’s Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

A total of eight agreements were signed during the official visit, reflecting growing cooperation across multiple sectors.

The visit marks an important chapter in the Maldives–India partnership, with both leaders reaffirming their shared commitment to regional stability, economic resilience, and mutual growth.
