Solih welcomes Modi’s visit, describes India as a time-tested ally of Maldives
Former President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has welcomed the upcoming state visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing India as a “time-tested ally” and reaffirming the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.
In an official statement, President Solih expressed his congratulations to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for inviting Prime Minister Modi to serve as the Chief Guest at the official celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence.

Solih stated
emphasizing that the invitation reflects not only the diplomatic ties between the two governments but also the shared history and mutual respect between the peoples of both nations.
He further noted that Prime Minister Modi’s presence at such a significant national milestone highlights India’s continued commitment to the Maldives and serves as a reminder of the longstanding cooperation between the two countries across various sectors.
I am confident that the visit will be a resounding success and will elevate the Maldives–India relationship to even greater heights

The two-day state visit, taking place from 25 to 26 July 2025, will include high-level discussions between Prime Minister Modi and President Muizzu, the inauguration of joint development projects, and the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening collaboration in infrastructure, economic development, and regional security.
The visit also marks Prime Minister Modi’s first official trip to the Maldives since assuming office for a third term.
