Indian PM Modi to join Maldives' 60th Independence day celebrations, calls visit an 'Honour'
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed that he is "honoured" to participate in the Maldives' 60th Independence Day celebrations, scheduled to take place during his state visit to Male’ from July 25–26 at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Taking to social media platform X on Wednesday, PM Modi announced his upcoming visit, stating:
Day after tomorrow, 25th July, I will be in the Maldives at the invitation of the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. I am honoured to be taking part in the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives. This year we also mark 60 years of India-Maldives diplomatic relations. The talks with President Muizzu will certainly add momentum to bilateral ties across diverse sectors
He wrote
This will mark Modi’s first since President Dr. Muizzu took office in November 2023.
During the visit, PM Modi is expected to inaugurate several joint projects and witness the signing of a number of Memoranda of Understanding aimed at deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
PM Modi’s visit is widely seen as a milestone in bilateral relations and comes at a symbolic moment as both nations celebrate 60 years of formal diplomatic engagement.
