Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has officially inaugurated the Maldives’ first-ever Centre for Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders, marking a significant milestone in the country’s fight against non-communicable diseases.

The facility, established within the Maldives Neuro Endocrine Medical Facility, was developed with the support of the Belarus Maldives Cultural Center.

Equipped with advanced laboratory and diagnostic tools, the new centre aims to provide specialized care for common metabolic disorders prevalent in the Maldives, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and dyslipidemia.

A key highlight of the event was the introduction of Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems (CGMS) to the Maldives healthcare system for the first time.

These modern systems allow real-time tracking of blood glucose levels, enabling healthcare professionals to prescribe more accurate treatment regimens for patients with diabetes.

As part of the inauguration, the Health Minister also launched a patient education book titled

Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Patient Education Guide”, co-authored by renowned endocrinologists Dr. Mohamed Wisham and Dr. Mariya Rusalenko.

This is the second patient education guide produced by the authors, designed to empower the Maldivian public with knowledge for managing and preventing metabolic conditions.
