MQA urges Maldivians to avoid certain Sri Lankan colleges, warns of suspended institutions
The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has issued an advisory cautioning students against enrolling in certain higher education institutions in Sri Lanka, following reports of institutional suspensions.
In a statement released by MQA, they revealed that they had received information regarding the suspension of some institutions registered under Sri Lanka's Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
The affected institutions include all campuses of Metropolitan College and ESOFT.
Students currently enrolled at these institutions are urged to notify MQA immediately via email at [email protected].
Additionally, the authority strongly advises students not to enroll in any programs offered by these institutions until further notice.
The statement also highlighted a recurring issue faced by returning students who fail to obtain the Recognition of the Intended Programme prior to commencing their studies abroad.
This document is critical for verifying whether the foreign institution and program align with the Maldives National Qualifications Framework (MNQF) and are recognized by the relevant government agencies in the host country.
The main purpose of obtaining this document is to ensure that the institution is recognized by MQA and that the program is compliant with the MNQF,
the authority stated.
Students planning to pursue education overseas are urged to secure MQA’s recognition before departure.
Those who have already begun their studies without this document are also advised to apply for it promptly.
MQA clarified that it will not be held responsible for any difficulties or loss students may face if they complete unrecognized programs and later seek validation.
Certificates from unapproved institutions cannot be validated under current regulations.
