New envoys from Palestine and five other nations present credentials
The Non-Resident Ambassador of Palestine and new envoys from five other countries presented their Letters of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in a formal ceremony held Thursday morning at the President’s Office.
Each envoy was ceremonially escorted from Republic Square in a traditional “Haiykolhu” cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
Palestine
Ihab Ibrahim Mohamed Khalil, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Palestine to the Maldives, expressed deep gratitude for the Maldives’ unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
He commended the country’s consistent advocacy on international platforms.
President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ steadfast commitment to the Palestinian people, underlining the importance of continued bilateral engagement.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Palestine were established on 4 April 1982.
Republic of Zimbabwe
Stella Nkomo, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Zimbabwe, was warmly received by the President.
Their discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in economic cooperation and tourism sector expertise sharing.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Zimbabwe were formalised on 7 January 1987.
Republic of Uzbekistan
Sardor Rustambaev, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Uzbekistan, explored collaborative opportunities with President Dr. Muizzu in trade, economic development, and educational exchange.
Both parties expressed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations.
Maldives and Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations on 7 December 1994.
Kingdom of Denmark
President Muizzu welcomed Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Denmark.
The meeting focused on boosting cooperation in economic development, climate action, and renewable energy.
The President also noted the growing number of Danish tourists and expressed hope for further growth with improved connectivity through the new terminal.
Diplomatic relations with Denmark began on 8 November 1982.
Hellenic Republic (Greece)
Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Greece, discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in education, tourism, economic initiatives, and climate change response.
Both sides pledged to explore new areas of collaboration for mutual benefit.
Maldives and Greece established formal diplomatic ties on 17 September 1983.
Republic of Uganda
Professor Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda, the Non-Resident High Commissioner of Uganda, was received by the President, who extended best wishes for her tenure.
Their discussions focused on expanding cooperation in economic development, education, climate resilience, and tourism.
President also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and people-to-people connections.
Maldives and Uganda established diplomatic relations on 30 November 1993.
