Maldives and Tajikistan explore closer ties in climate action and tourism

Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kokhir Rasulzoda, during his official visit to attend the High-Level International Conference on the Preservation of Glaciers in Dushanbe.

In their meeting, the Vice President and the Prime Minister engaged in discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation in several key areas.

They acknowledged the Maldives’ high vulnerability to climate change, particularly the existential threat posed by rising sea levels and shared a mutual interest in collaborating on climate adaptation and sustainable development strategies.

The leaders also highlighted the potential for expanding cooperation in agriculture.

In addition, tourism development was identified as a promising area of collaboration. Tajikistan expressed appreciation for the Maldives’ global success in the tourism sector and showed interest in learning from the country’s experience to strengthen its own tourism industry.

Concluding the meeting, both the Vice President and the Prime Minister reaffirmed their commitment to furthering the relationship between the Maldives and Tajikistan, and to pursuing joint initiatives that benefit both nations.
