Maldives poised to welcome one millionth tourist by mid-June
The Maldives is on track to welcome its one millionth tourist by the middle of next month, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism.
As of May 27, a total of 950,212 tourists have visited the Maldives in 2025, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, when arrivals stood at 879,892.
The momentum remains strong this month, with 119,486 visitors recorded so far in May, reflecting an 11.1% growth compared to May 2024, which saw 107,522 arrivals.
With just under 50,000 additional visitors needed to hit the milestone, officials anticipate the one millionth tourist will arrive by mid-June.
China remains the leading source market, contributing 112,594 tourists, or 11.8% of total arrivals. It is followed by:
Russia: 102,842 (10.8%)
United Kingdom: 97,561 (10.3%)
Italy: 81,218 (8.5%)
Germany: 72,822 (7.7%)
January recorded the highest monthly arrivals so far this year, with 214,863 tourists.
Accommodation statistics show that the majority of visitors 677,848 tourists chose to stay in resorts. Guesthouses hosted 220,581, while 27,791 stayed in hotels and 23,331 in safari vessels.
The government has set a target of attracting 2.3 million tourists by the end of 2025, and the current trends suggest the Maldives is well-positioned to meet this ambitious goal.
