Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has departed today on an official visit to India to lead the Maldivian delegation at the Second Meeting of the Maldives–India High-Level Core Group (HLCG).

The meeting is scheduled for 26 May 2025 at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

The HLCG was established to advance the implementation of the “Maldives and India: Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership,” a strategic framework agreed upon by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting in October 2024.

According to the Ministry, the upcoming discussions will cover a wide range of priority areas including transport and connectivity, trade, agriculture, fisheries, health, economic cooperation, capacity building, people-to-people exchanges, and defence and security collaboration.

The first HLCG meeting was held in Malé on 29 January 2025.

In addition to leading the Maldivian delegation at the HLCG meeting, Minister Dr. Khaleel will hold bilateral talks with India's Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar.

The two counterparts are expected to review the progress of Maldives–India relations and discuss key regional and international matters of mutual concern.

Minister Dr. Khaleel is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from the President’s Office and several key ministries, including Defence, Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Finance and Planning, Economic Development and Trade, and Homeland Security and Technology.
