Police have announced that they are working with Malaysian authorities to obtain a statement from 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who was found seriously injured on a rooftop in Henveiru, Malé, on April 18.

This move comes amid ongoing non-cooperation from her family.

According to the police, despite repeated attempts, Yumnu’s family has failed to provide updates about her health or facilitate her statement for the investigation.

She was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), before being airlifted to Malaysia for further treatment on April 26.

In a statement, the police said they were not informed about her transfer to a different hospital in Malaysia and have received no communication from the family regarding her current medical condition.

The authorities also emphasized that they are prepared to arrange questioning with the family's support, but efforts to establish cooperation have been unsuccessful to date.

Due to this lack of progress, the Police have now turned to Malaysian law enforcement, seeking their assistance to legally obtain Yumnu’s statement under the country’s laws and regulations.

Two officers, including a medical doctor, have been stationed in Malaysia since her transfer.

The police confirmed that both Yumnu and Raudh Ahmed Zilal , a key suspect in the case, were intoxicated and tested positive for narcotics at the time of the incident.

CCTV footage relevant to the case has also been shared by the police.

Amid public criticism and allegations of a police cover-up, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has formed a presidential commission to independently investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ali Ihusan recently stated that no evidence of police misconduct has been identified in the ongoing investigation.
