India completes first refit of MNDF’s largest vessel ‘Huravee’
The largest vessel in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard fleet, Huravee, departed India on Sunday following the completion of a four-month repair and refit process at the Indian Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
The vessel was gifted to the Maldives by the Government of India in 2023, replacing an earlier ship of the same name that was handed over in 2006 and later decommissioned.
The current 'Huravee' is notably larger and features enhanced operational capabilities compared to its predecessor. This marks the first time the new vessel was taken to India for maintenance.
According to a post by India’s Western Naval Command on social media platform X, the Huravee underwent a comprehensive “Normal Refit” process which included maintenance of all machinery, weapons, and sensors.
Additionally, significant upgrades were made to improve habitability aboard the ship.
Following the refit, the vessel underwent a series of rigorous harbour and sea trials, operational checks, safety audits, and Operational Sea Training to ensure its readiness before returning to active duty.
The Western Naval Command noted that the successful completion of the refit highlights the “strong diplomatic and military cooperation between the two countries,” and reflects India’s steadfast commitment to being a reliable regional partner.
