Minister of State for Housing Akram Kamaluddin has been elected as the President of MDP's Upper North constituency.

The post of President for the Upper North Constituency became vacant following the election of Ibrahim Waheed (Ibure) as the deputy chairperson of MDP.

Akram won the post after competing against the Minister of State for Health Ahmed Adil and Senior Policy Director at the Ministry of Heritage Ahmed Hashim (Tintin). Multiple members of MDP including MPs and ordinary members congratulated Akram on his win.

Akram has previously contested in an MDP internal election for the post of MDP's Male constituency held last September. However, Akram lost the following election to Former Mayor Shifa Mohamed.
