India pledges tech support to digitalize Maldives parliament
Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha (House of the people), Om Birla, has pledged technical assistance to help the People’s Majlis of the Maldives digitalize its parliamentary resources.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Birla and Maldivian Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla at the Lok Sabha premises on Tuesday.
Abdul Raheem, who is on a four-day official visit to India, commended the Indian Parliament’s use of technology, digitalization, and artificial intelligence (AI).
He requested Birla’s support in modernizing the Majlis' parliamentary resources, a request to which Birla assured "every possible help" from the Indian Parliament.
According to a post on social media platform 'X' from Lok Sabha Speaker, the Maldives can also access training programs under the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) to enhance the skills of its legislators and parliamentary officials.
Abdul Raheem’s visit comes at the invitation of Birla and Jagdeep Dhankhar, Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
He is accompanied by a nine-member Maldivian parliamentary delegation, including MPs Ibrahim Shujau, Mohamed Shahid, Dr. Anara Naeem, Mohamed Afoo Hamid, Abdulla Shareef, Ahmed Aifan, Hussain Hameed, Asadhullah Shihab, and Mohamed Shamin Habeeb.
