Employees of AFCON Infrastructure, an Indian firm executing several mega projects in the Maldives, have started protesting in Kaafu Atoll Gulhifalhu. 

Despite the protest, no official government source has yet confirmed the reason for what prompted the protest. A significant group of workers have gathered and planned protests in Gulhifalhu. The protest comes a day after a large fire broke out at AFCON's accommodation block in Gulhifalhu 

AFCON's parent company Shapoorji Pallonji Group faced several debt issues last year. However, the company has confirmed that they had cleared its debt.
