Thoriq Ibrahim sworn in as Minister following merger of tourism and environment ministries
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has restructured the cabinet by merging the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy with the Ministry of Tourism, forming a new Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
Thoriq Ibrahim has been appointed as the minister to lead the newly consolidated ministry.
Thoriq Ibrahim officially assumed office after taking his oath before Supreme Court Justice Hon Uz Mahaz Ali Zahir in a ceremony held at the President’s Office this afternoon.
Following the swearing-in, President presented him with his official letter of appointment.
After the formal proceedings, the President met with Minister Thoriq Ibrahim to discuss the strategic vision for the new ministry.
He highlighted the importance of integrating environmental conservation efforts with the Maldives’ tourism sector to enhance the country’s global appeal.
The restructuring follows the dismissal of former Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal last Tuesday.
Until the new appointment, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed had been overseeing the tourism ministry on an interim basis.
Thoriq Ibrahim previously served as Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, having been appointed to the role by President Dr. Muizzu on November 17, 2023.
He also held the position of Minister of Environment and Energy from November 19, 2013, to November 17, 2018, during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen
