Maldives based AI startup Synetecs has been selected for the prestigious ALPHA program at Web Summit, marking a historic milestone as the country’s first representative at this globally renowned platform.

Founded with the vision of bridging the digital divide, Synetecs is dedicated to empowering low-resource language communities by democratizing AI.

The startup focuses on preserving linguistic diversity and fostering inclusivity in the digital era, addressing the needs of the 1.2 billion speakers of low-resource languages worldwide.

“Our selection into the ALPHA program presents an extraordinary opportunity for Synetecs and the Maldivian tech ecosystem, We are honored to represent the Maldives on a global stage and pave the way for future tech entrepreneurs from our country”

CEO of Synetecs, Ismail Kaleem said

Synetecs is tackling a global challenge, the digital exclusion of communities speaking low-resource languages.

With nearly half of the world’s linguistic diversity at risk, the company offers innovative solutions, including:

1. Speech recognition models for accurate voice-to-text conversion across diverse dialects.

2. Content generation tools to preserve cultural heritage in digital form.

3. Data sovereignty features to protect sensitive linguistic and cultural information.

Synetecs began its journey by focusing on Dhivehi, and has since expanded its scope.

Its flagship platform, Thaana.ai, and the DhivehiTales storytelling tool are already empowering local institutions and communities, ensuring cultural preservation and accessibility.

Participation in the ALPHA program offers Synetecs access to invaluable opportunities, including networking with global investors, mentorship, participation in the prestigious PITCH competition, and international media exposure.

Web Summit Qatar, one of the largest gatherings of startups, is expected to attract over 15,000 attendees and 1,000 startups from around the world.

“Web Summit is an incredible opportunity for us to extend our impact, connect with like-minded leaders, and push the boundaries of what’s possible for low-resource language communities,”

Managing Director of Synetecs, Mohamed Jinas stated

With plans to expand its reach to other low-resource languages, Synetecs is poised to drive innovation while preserving linguistic and cultural diversity.

As Maldives celebrates its inaugural representation at Web Summit, Synetecs stands as a beacon of the nation’s potential in the global tech landscape.
