Speeding motorcycle hits on-duty officer on Hulhumalé Highway

A police officer sustained serious injuries after being struck by a speeding motorcycle on the Hulhumalé Highway early Saturday morning.

According to police, the collision occurred at approximately 4:29 a.m. when a motorcyclist travelling from Malé towards Hulhumalé lost control of his vehicle and hit the officer, who was on duty on the highway.

A police spokesperson said other officers at the scene stopped the motorcyclist. The rider was subsequently taken into custody, and the motorcycle was seized.

The injured officer was taken to ADK Hospital in Malé for treatment.

Voice reporters at the scene saw the officer lying injured on the road, with the motorcycle thrown some distance away.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
