Foreign experts to assist in ministry fire investigation
Commissioner of Police (CP) Ali Shujau has announced plans to enlist foreign experts to investigate the fire that engulfed several government buildings in Male’ on Thursday.
The fire caused significant damage to the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, and the Environment Ministry.
The blaze broke out in the building shared by the Housing and Construction ministries, located on Ameenee Magu, and rapidly spread to the adjacent Green Building, home to the Environment Ministry.
The fire rendered the affected structures unusable, though no injuries were reported, as it occurred just before work hours.
In a press briefing held at Dharubaaruge on Saturday, CP Shujau assured the public of a comprehensive investigation, with the involvement of foreign specialists expected to arrive within the next two to three days.
He stated that police forensic teams are already working at the scene, collecting evidence, interviewing eyewitnesses, and analyzing CCTV footage.

CP Shujau stated
He urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist authorities.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) was at the forefront of firefighting efforts, supported by all available police resources.
The fire has disrupted operations at the affected ministries, with plans underway to temporarily relocate services to Dharubaaruge, a convention center in the capital.
The Commissioner assured timely updates as the investigation progresses.
