Brazilian and Maldivian arrested in drug seizures worth MVR 7.1 Million

The Maldives Customs Service has confiscated a total of 3.48 kilograms of drugs, with an estimated street value of MVR 7.1 million, in two separate operations over the past week.

In a statement released today, Customs revealed that the first drug seizure occurred on Saturday, October 5, when officers found 2.44 kilograms of cocaine in the luggage of a 33-year-old Brazilian woman arriving from Brazil. The cocaine has a street value of MVR 6.1 million.

The second seizure took place on Monday, October 7, during an inspection of a postal package.

Inside, Customs discovered 1.04 kilograms of heroin, valued at MVR 1,040,000.

A 40-year-old Maldivian man, who arrived to collect the package, was detained.

Both suspects, along with the confiscated drugs, have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
