Mohamed Rihan Shiham has made waves at the Asian Open Schools Invitational (AOSI) Shortcourse (25m) Agegroup Swimming Championships 2024 in Thailand by setting six new national records in various swimming events.

Rihan began his record-breaking spree with the men’s shortcourse 100m backstroke, clocking in at 01:02.81, surpassing the previous record of 01:03.02 set by Ali Imaan during the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships in 2021.

He followed this achievement by breaking the national record in the men’s shortcourse 50m backstroke, finishing in 00:29.06—also bettering Ali Imaan's prior record of 00:29.23 from the 2021 Swimming World Cup.

Continuing his impressive performance, Rihan set a new benchmark in the men’s shortcourse 100m butterfly with a time of 00:59.69, breaking the record previously held by Nishwan Ibrahim, who finished in 01:00.71 at the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships.

Rihan also set a record in the men’s shortcourse 200m butterfly with a time of 02:21.75, previously held by himself at 02:27.12 from the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships in 2022.

In addition, he claimed the national record for the men’s shortcourse 50m butterfly, finishing in 00:27.06, surpassing Nishwan Ibrahim's record of 00:27.68 from the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships in 2014.

Rihan concluded his record-breaking performance with a new national record in the men’s shortcourse 200m freestyle, clocking in at 02:03.06 and eclipsing the previous record of 02:05.04 set by Mubaal Azzam Ibrahim at the 13th South Asian Games in 2019.

Rihan's outstanding achievements at the AOSI Championships reflect his dedication and talent in the sport, marking a significant milestone in Maldivian swimming.
