Maldives intervenes in ICJ Gaza case, calls for justice and accountability

The Maldives has officially intervened in the ongoing case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the situation in Gaza. 

The announcement was made by President Dr.Muizzu through a post on his official 'X' account.

In his statement, President Dr. Muizzu revealed that the Maldives filed a declaration of intervention in the case based on Article 63 of the ICJ Statute. 

The intervention pertains to the application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in Gaza, a case originally brought forward by South Africa against Israel.

The Maldives, under Article 63 of the ICJ Statute, has officially declared its intervention in the case regarding the Genocide Convention in Gaza,

President Dr. Muizzu wrote

He stressed the importance of holding Israel accountable for its actions in Gaza, calling for adherence to the rule of law and the immediate cessation of what he described as "genocidal acts" against the Palestinian people.

Reaffirming the Maldives' longstanding commitment to humanitarian values, President Dr. Muizzu declared that the nation will continue to stand with justice, peace, and humanity. 

He also reiterated the Maldives' unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, calling for the recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state with borders defined by the pre-1967 lines, and East Jerusalem as its capital.

This intervention marks a significant step in the Maldives' foreign policy and aligns with its consistent support for Palestinian statehood and the broader pursuit of accountability in international conflicts.
