In a powerful address at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, calling it a "genocide" and a "travesty of justice."

He emphasized the dire humanitarian situation and called for Israel to be held accountable for violations of international law and UN resolutions.

This is why the ongoing massacre—the genocide—by Israel in Gaza, is a travesty of justice and the international system. The repeated destruction of homes, hospitals, schools, humanitarian infrastructure; the repeated cycles of killings of men, women, children, babies; thousands upon thousands

President Dr. Muizzu stated

He added that the world is "struggling to process the deaths of so many civilians in Gaza" and highlighted that Israeli raids in Lebanon are now claiming hundreds more civilian lives.

Their cries haunt anyone with humanity. Their tears, bitter on our conscience

President Dr. Muizzu added

President Dr Muizzu also condemned Israel’s targeting of journalists, describing it as an attempt to suppress information.

Israel’s targeting of journalists—the eyes and ears of humanity—the killings of Palestinian journalists, Lebanese journalists, Al-Jazeera journalists, and the closure of Al-Jazeera offices, how can we interpret this as anything other than brutal attempts to prevent the world from knowing about the crimes taking place?

The President concluded by welcoming the inclusion of Palestinian representatives in the General Assembly and expressed hope that Palestine would soon become a full member of the United Nations.

Since October 7 of last year, Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports that over 40,000 Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israeli’s genocidal actions.

Additionally, thousands more are trapped under rubble, facing the threat of illness and displaced

In a recent escalation, Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of more than 490 individuals, including over 90 women and children, according to Lebanese authorities.

This represents the most lethal assault in the region since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah conflict according to authorities.
