In a strong show of solidarity, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives' unwavering support for the Palestinian cause during an interview following his meeting with Palestinian President Dr. Mahmoud Abbas.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).

Addressing international media, President Muizzu emphasized that the people of Maldives fully stand with the Palestinian people, stressing that the nation's support is absolute.

He strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities and war crimes committed against Palestinians, assuring that Maldives has always supported, and will continue to support, the Palestinian struggle.

Since October 7, the death toll has risen to 41,431, with 95,818 people injured in Israeli attacks, according to a statement from the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Maldives’ dedication to Palestine has been a long-standing element of its foreign policy, reflecting its commitment to justice and human rights on the global stage.

The country co-sponsored the 2024 UN resolution calling for the admission of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

Additionally, Maldives welcomed the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on the legal implications of Israel’s actions, contributing both written and oral submissions.

In further support, a national telethon held on June 12, 2024, raised over USD 1.2 million for the people of Palestine, which was donated to UNRWA, underscoring the depth of public support across the Maldives for the Palestinian cause.
