The president emphasized that the bridge stands as a testament to the shared vision of both nations for progress, unity, and prosperity.
The bridge continues to be a testament to our shared vision of progress, unity, and prosperity. May this bridge serve as a beacon of cooperation for generations to come,
he added
In 2018, the Maldives made history with the opening of its first cross-sea bridge, a landmark development for the small island nation.
Constructed under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) during the administration of former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the strategically positioned bridge connects the capital city, Malé, with two other key islands in the greater metropolitan area.
One of these islands houses the Velana International Airport, while the other, Hulhumalé, was developed in 2004 to alleviate congestion in the capital.
