Nick Low appointed as British High Commissioner to Maldives

The United Kingdom has appointed Mr. Nick Low as the new British High Commissioner to the Republic of Maldives.

According to an announcement from high commission , he will succeed Ms. Caron Röhsler who became High Commissioner on 1 February 2020, with the official transition set to take place in January 2025.

Nick Low brings extensive experience in international diplomacy to his new role. He is currently serving as a Counsellor at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) within the India & Indian Ocean Directorate.

Additionally, he is a Visiting Fellow at the China & Emerging Economies Centre at the University of Northampton.

Low's diplomatic career has seen him in various key positions across the globe.

From 2019 to 2023, he served as the Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, India. Prior to that, he led the China Regional Network & Sustainable Urbanisation team in Beijing.

His previous assignments include Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Deputy Head of Mission in Algiers, Algeria.

Before joining the diplomatic service, Low served in the Metropolitan Police Service in London, working in various boroughs.

His early career also included a stint in the National Health Service at Guy’s Hospital in London.

With a diverse background that spans multiple continents and sectors, Low's appointment is expected to further strengthen UK-Maldives relations as he takes on his new role.
