The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), responsible for managing operations at Velana International Airport (VIA), has issued a warning that flights may face delays due to the ongoing heavy rains.

In a recent social media post, MACL referenced the latest advisory from the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET), indicating that severe weather conditions could disrupt flight schedules.

The company has urged passengers to take extra precautions when traveling to and from the airport, advising them to "pack your raincoat, plan ahead, and travel safely."

The Maldives is currently experiencing the effects of the western monsoon, with the Met Office issuing an orange alert for the region, forecasting thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas.

The continuous rains have already led to flooding in some parts of the country, including the capital, Malé.

According to the MET, the northern regions of the Maldives are experiencing worse weather conditions compared to the south, and the inclement weather is expected to persist.
