Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker meets President Dr. Muizzu, reaffirms strong ties
Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, the Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office on Tuesday.
The meeting underscored the deep and historic ties between the two nations, which date back to the establishment of diplomatic relations on July 26, 1965, shortly after the Maldives gained independence.
President Dr Muizzu warmly welcomed Speaker Abeywardana and expressed his appreciation for the strong and enduring friendship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The discussions between the two leaders focused on mutual interests, with President Dr Muizzu emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and prosperous future for Sri Lanka, particularly in the context of the upcoming Presidential election.
The President conveyed his hopes for positive outcomes from the election that would contribute to Sri Lanka’s development and prosperity.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing the bilateral relations that have benefited both nations over the decades.
