Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal announced today that the Maldives is making strides towards hosting the renowned competitive cooking show, MasterChef.

During a press briefing at the Tourism Ministry, Faisal underscored the need to enhance the local culinary sector, citing that some luxury resorts in the Maldives offer salaries as high as USD 35,000 for top chefs.

Faisal expressed a strong commitment to increasing the number of Maldivians in the culinary field and outlined plans to collaborate with industry professionals to achieve this objective.

Chefs are very expensive people. There are chefs in Maldives who earn $30,000 or $35,000 at some luxury resorts. These are things that can be done by Maldivians. I would ask the industry to come up with a plan and give opportunities to the people (Maldivians) interested in resorts,

Minister Faisal stated

Additionally, the Minister highlighted the importance of advancing Maldivians to senior roles such as General Managers, Directors of Sales, and Operations Managers in resorts.

To support this, Faisal announced plans to implement specialized training programs for local employees.

Faisal revealed that discussions are underway with Public Service Media (PSM) regarding the feasibility of bringing MasterChef to the Maldives.

I will soon discuss with PSM the possibility of bringing MasterChef to the Maldives to spark interest in this field. I've already spoken with several resorts, and some have expressed strong support for the idea,

he added

MasterChef, which first aired in the UK in 1990, is a globally acclaimed reality cooking show designed to discover culinary talent through various challenges judged by esteemed food critics and chefs.

Faisal believes that hosting the show in the Maldives would not only nurture professional chefs but also inspire young Maldivians to explore careers in the culinary arts.

Earlier in 2020, an agreement was reached to host MasterChef in Maldives; however, the plans have yet to be realized.
