Maldives achieves over 1.1 Million tourist arrivals by mid-2024
Maldives has welcomed over 1.1 million tourists this year, marking a notable increase in tourism.
According to the Daily Reports of Tourism, as of July 20th, 1,118,878 tourists have visited the idyllic island nation.
This figure represents a 9.6% rise compared to the 1,021,117 tourists recorded during the same period last year.
In the first half of July alone, 103,349 tourists visited the Maldives, a 12.9% increase from the 91,510 tourists during the same timeframe last year.
China has emerged as the largest source of tourists, with 143,036 visitors, capturing a market share of 12.8%.
Russia follows closely with 118,291 tourists, while the United Kingdom ranks third, having sent 100,313 tourists so far.
The Maldivian government is ambitiously aiming to attract 2 million tourists by the end of the year.
In line with this vision, President Dr Muizzu has set a goal to open 20 new resorts, adding 2,857 beds, before the year concludes.
This expansion aims to accommodate the growing number of visitors and further boost the country's thriving tourism sector.
