Government to enhance training opportunities for Maldivian athletes: President Dr Muizzu

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the government's strong commitment to advancing sports in the Maldives and to enhance training opportunities for Maldivian athletes.

He made these remarks during the Flag Bearer Awarding Ceremony for Team Maldives, held at the President's Office in preparation for the "Paris 2024 Olympics."

The ceremony was also attended by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef as well.

In his address, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the Government's policy to promote sports across the country, aiming to create more opportunities for Maldivian athletes to compete in various sports in the future.

He emphasized the Administration's dedication to enhancing training and development opportunities, which will enable more athletes to participate in regional and international competitions, including the Olympics.

It is our policy to ensure that more athletes represent Maldives in the Olympics and other competitions at the regional and international levels

stated President Dr Muizzu.

President also mentioned plans to extensively support athlete training by providing opportunities for training abroad.

He noted that the Administration will prioritize sports development in next year's budget, signaling a significant transformation in the sports sector.

President Dr Muizzu commended the athletes competing in the "Paris 2024 Olympics" and encouraged them to bring laurels to the country.

This year, the Maldives will send its largest contingent to the Olympics, with five athletes set to compete, marking a historic level of participation for the nation.

They include 

- Fathimath Dheema Ali - Table tennis 

- Ibadullah Adam - Sprint running 

- Fathimath Nabaha - Badminton 

- Aishath Ulya Shaaiq - Swimming 

- Mohamed Aan Hussain - Swimming
