Bank of Maldives (BML), the national bank of the Maldives, has been included in Forbes’ World’s Top Performing Banks 2026 list, recognising its financial performance alongside banking institutions worldwide.

Compiled by Forbes in partnership with market research firm Statista, the ranking is based on an assessment of financial data, including audited financial statements and key indicators of profitability, growth, capital strength and asset quality.

BML is among 500 banks from 89 countries featured in the inaugural ranking.

The assessment focused on four key areas, profitability, growth and earnings quality, capital and funding resilience, and asset quality and efficiency.

According to Forbes, the ranking evaluates financial performance rather than simply the size of an institution.

Eligible banks were divided into six groups based on total assets, allowing their performance to be assessed against institutions of a similar size.

BML described its inclusion as a major step forward for the Maldivian banking sector and a historic achievement that places the bank alongside leading financial institutions worldwide.
