To expand its international destinations, Island Aviation Services, the operator of national airline Maldivian, has opened the opportunity to submit proposals for acquiring two Airbus A220-300 aircrafts son an operating lease basis.

The company stated that these modern, fuel-efficient aircraft will be utilized for long-haul routes. Enhancing the quality of service provided to passengers is also a key objective of this project.

Interested parties wishing to supply the aircraft must submit their proposals before the 28th of this month.

Maldivian also noted that the deadline for submitting queries for clarification is 14:00 hrs on the 15th of this month, with responses to be provided before the 19th.

Maldivian, which accounts for a major share of domestic air travel in the Maldives, currently operates scheduled flights to seven destinations across four countries.

These include two cities in India, Dhaka in Bangladesh, three cities in China, as well as Melbourne in Australia.

The Airbus A220-300 was originally designed by Canada's Bombardier before transitioning under Europe's Airbus.

The aircraft has a seating capacity ranging from 120 to 150 passengers and can fly non-stop for a range of approximately 6,300 kilometers. Renowned for its fuel efficiency and low engine noise, this aircraft is a popular choice among many global airlines for medium-haul routes.

Maldivian’s current fleet includes Dash 8 and ATR aircraft, making this a significant effort by the company to add long-haul international capability to its fleet.

The acquisition of these two A220-300 aircraft is expected to expand direct flight destinations from the Maldives and strengthen Maldivian's competitiveness in the international aviation market.
