An agreement has been signed with Malaysia’s Altus Oil & Gas Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. to construct ice plants in 11 islands.

Under this project, plants capable of producing 30 tons of ice per day will be established in each of the islands.

The islands designated to receive ice plants under this project are; M. Mulah, Dh. Hulhudheli, Hdh. Kulhudhuffushi, Ga. Nilandhoo, Ga. Villingili, Sh. Komandoo, Ga. Maamendhoo, Aa. Rasdhoo, Ha. Dhidhdhoo, K. Gaafaru, and Gdh. Rathafandhoo.

The work in these islands will be carried out under a design, build, and supply model.

The scope of this project includes designing 30-ton ice plants, coordinating technical works, and providing tube ice plant equipment suitable for operation on the islands.

It also includes setting up a cooling system that utilizes seawater, tailored to the Maldivian marine environment.

Additionally, the company will handle the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of all necessary works for the ice plants.

They will also oversee logistics, project management, document preparation, and handover assistance.

Furthermore, coordinating warranty and after-sales services in accordance with the agreement with the Ministry is included in the project.

Upon completion of this project, fishermen across different regions of the Maldives will easily access fresh ice, significantly reducing the travel time and effort previously needed to obtain ice.

To further strengthen the Maldivian fishing industry and ensure convenient access to ice for fishermen, the government is continuously establishing ice plants and cold storage facilities across the country.
