President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will undertake a State Visit to Pakistan from October 20 to 22, marking the first visit by a Maldivian president to the country in over 10 years, the President’s Office has announced.
The visit comes at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu is scheduled to meet Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Sharif and other senior government officials during the visit.
He will also hold official talks with the prime minister to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, with the two leaders set to witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering various areas of cooperation.
The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, established on July 26, 1966.
The President’s Office stated that the visit reflects the administration’s commitment to its Maldives First foreign policy, which emphasises maintaining strong ties with neighbouring countries and expanding international engagement to advance bilateral partnerships and support national development.
President Muizzu will be accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
