Following the termination of agreements and notice to vacate two social housing flats in Hulhumalé due to unpaid rent, the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has revealed that numerous people have begun calling to settle their payments.
In a statement given to Voice, FDC’s Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel stated that since the notice was issued to vacate the two apartments, a large number of individuals have contacted the corporation expressing their readiness to pay their outstanding rent.
Hamdhan noted that the number of units with irregular rent payments is below 500, pointing out that these include individuals who have failed to pay for a period shorter than three months.
A lot of people are calling and saying they are ready to pay rent
Hamdhan said.
He further mentioned that the corporation will facilitate flexible arrangements for those who agree to pay their rent.
If they agree to pay the rent, arrangements will be made to allow payment in installments
Hamdhan Shakeel stated.
FDC disclosed on the 14th of this month that it had terminated the agreements and instructed the vacation of two apartments allocated in the "Amaan Udhares" and "Amaan Dhoadhi" towers developed in Hulhumalé.
The corporation stated that this action was taken in accordance with the procedures outlined in the agreement executed prior to the lease and ownership of the 4,000 housing units.
According to FDC, the two parties were given a period of 135 days to settle the unpaid amounts prior to agreement termination.
This included sending payment default notices on two separate occasions, as well as the required 30-day notice prior to agreement termination.
These notices were served via the Fahi Portal, as well as through SMS, email, and written documentation.
However, since no payments were made despite being provided reasonable opportunities, the agreements were canceled and the occupants were instructed to vacate and hand over the units within 15 days of receiving the notice.
Additionally, access to their Fahi Portal accounts has been revoked.
FDC stated that these measures were taken to uphold guidelines fairly and justly for all parties and to execute actions transparently.
The corporation also urged all residents to regularly pay rent and maintenance fees to ensure the sustainable management of the units and to maintain the quality of services.
