President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government’s goal is to designate specific agricultural produce and facilitate their cultivation on local soil to meet national demand, bringing them to market without relying on imports.

The President made these remarks in a social media post published today on the occasion of Maldivian Farmers' Day.

In his post, the President stated that Farmers' Day is a valuable occasion that serves as a reminder of the vital role played by hardworking Maldivian farmers in ensuring food security at the national level and in diversifying the economy.

He highlighted that reducing dependence on foreign imports and producing agricultural goods on home soil using environmentally friendly methods is directly linked to the nation's sovereignty.

Furthermore, the President noted that today reminds us of the importance of increasing domestic food production to protect the country from price shocks in the global food market and disruptions to international transport.

The President also stated that expanding the agricultural industry in the Maldives will help retain foreign currency within the nation and create new employment opportunities in the islands.

President Dr. Muizzu further affirmed that it is his firm resolve for the government to continuously work toward paving the way for farmers to increase their profits using modern technology.

On the happy occasion of Farmers' Day, the President extended his sincere greetings and best wishes to all Maldivian farmers, farming families, and everyone involved in the industry.
